π₯Most peated whisky is sold on the smoke.
Secrets of Smoke is about the sweetness underneath it.
A limited edition from Compass Box, the London blending house that works exclusively with Scotch. This one draws together palo cortado-finished Caol Ila, red wine cask-finished Peat Monster, and marsala-finished Laphroaig β three peated components, each pushed toward fruit and sweetness by the cask rather than away from it. Just 9,792 bottles were released worldwide.
Aroma: Coastal smoke first, then honey, toasted marshmallow and buttery pear.
Palate: Oily and spicy β pear, peach and melon turning citrussy.
Finish: Long, chocolatey, peat holding underneath.
This is not a whisky built to prove a point about peat.
It's for drinkers who already like smoke and want to find what's behind it β where three Islay-leaning malts meet fortified wine casks.
Serve neat, or over one rock. Natural colour and only lightly filtered, so it can haze when cold β that's intended.
Under ten thousand bottles made. Compass Box don't repeat these.
